My new home office workspace is set with everything in reach. All that I need to create is here. The rest is up to me: the inspiration and perspiration to get things done. Not pictures is my futon couch. Yes, it is easy to take naps, but I wake refreshed.

I took over three thousand photos at the Maryland Renaissance Festival on the first Sunday in October, a record for me. I’m learning my camera (a Nikon D300) better each time I go out on a shoot. This time I learned better how to keep focus with moving subjects; how to reestablish focus when shooting many photos in quick succession, how to rapidly spot meter, where best to stand when taking long shots, and how to keep myself fed and hydrated during a long shoot. Perfect weather, cool and sunny. It will take months to process the pictures the way they deserve.

Preparing my next Bookshare scan: Bitter Lemons by Lawrence Durrell - an impressionistic study of the moods and atmospheres of Cyprus from 1953 to 1954. Durrell is a residence writer who paints intense word portraits and landscapes. First words of this book: “Journeys, like artists, are born and not made. A thousand differing circumstances contribute to them, few of them willed or determined by the will–whatever we may think. They flower spontaneously out of the demands of our natures–and the best of them will lead us not only outwards in space, but inwards as as well. Travel can be one of the most rewarding forms of introspection. These thoughts belong to Venice at dawn, seen from the deck of the ship which is to carry me down through the islands to Cyprus.”

I’m going to try to go every Saturday this season to the Maryland Renaissance Festival. I made it to the first and am on schedule to go to the second. I’ve taken some good HD video in the past. This year, I’m concentrating on photos at first. Maybe I’ll switch back to video.

22 Bowens Wine Bar and Grille in Newport, Rhode Island is a restaurant we’ve visited often over they past twenty years, never having a full meal, but only clam chowder and dessert. That and fresh bread - so delicious. Then walking around Newport. This weekend, cool breezes, the sun setting, wonderful light for photos, good memories piled together.
