Dreams Deferred

February 10th, 2009

Poem Transcript (Title and First Line from Langston Hughes given, rest done by my daughter as a school assignment).

Dreams Deferred
What happens when you dreams are deferred?
If a dying tree has but one fruit,
and a hoard of bees guard its stem,
will you give up on grabbing it?

If the fruit falls to the ground,
and is left covered in mud and dirt,
will you still hesitate to take it?

And if you still cannot attain the fruit,
and are left with just a seed,
will you have the hope to plant it,
and aim for the fruit again?
